Ceramics
The Classes
KAC’s Ceramics program offers weekly classes on making, decorating, glazing, and firing functional and sculptural ceramics. Instructors work closely with students on form and design as well as technique.
Ceramics classes are offered for children through adults with options for first-time students through advanced ceramic artists. Between our weekend workshops, day and night classes, and holiday intensives, we have options to fit every schedule.
Facilities
The Kirkland Arts Center houses a fully-outfitted ceramics studio. Resources include access to a slab roller; 12 electric potters’ wheels; hand-building tables; glazes, tools and clay; an extruder; and several kilns, including gas, electric, raku, and now a soda kiln, too! Work is glaze fired at Cone 05 oxidation or Cone 10 reduction.
We provide more than 20 hours per week of open studio time in both our main Ceramics Studio and our Mezzanine Glazing Studio, included with the tuition of most ceramics classes.
Clay & Toolkits
Most ceramics classes and workshops include one 25 lb. bag of clay, glaze, and firing. Students may purchase basic tool kits or additional bags of clay for $25 each and porcelain for $30. Contact the Ceramics Studio Manager.
