Painting & Drawing
The Classes
Painting and drawing classes are alive and thriving at KAC. We offer numerous weekly classes in acrylic, oil, and watercolor painting, plus pastels and Asian ink painting. Develop your observational rendering skills with still lifes and figure models or branch out into abstract art! Our experienced instructors – some have been with us for more than 20 years – provide demonstrations and one-on-one guidance.
We offer classes for children and adults with options for first-time students through more advanced artists. Between our weekend workshops, day and night classes, and holiday intensives, we have a class to fit every schedule.
The Facilities
Our light-flooded third floor Skylight Studio in our charming historic building makes our 2D art classes one-of-a-kind. Some painting and drawing classes take place in the smaller, more intimate Print Studio just off of the Skylight Studio. Easels, drawing horses, drawing boards, and tables are provided. Plein-air and tabletop easels are not.
Printmaking
The Classes
Explore etching, woodcut and linocut relief prints, mezzotint, collage, photo lithography, stencils, monoprint, and other exciting techniques from inspirational instructors in an intimate class environment. Printmaking classes and workshops are open to adults and teens with options for first-time students through more advanced artists. Between our weekend workshops, day and night classes, and open studios, we have a class to fit every schedule.
The Facilities
The Kirkland Arts Center Print Studio features a 30″ x 60″ Takash state-of-the-art combination printing press, suitable for work in a variety of printmaking processes. Print students have access to drying racks, glass-covered table space, a sink, brayers, a workroom in a historic building, and the camaraderie of knowledgeable and enthusiastic artists, students, instructors, and staff.
Inks and weekly open studio time are included with most printmaking classes and workshops.
